Concept and technical design.
A Mid Century Japanese-Inspired Birmingham House required an elegant contemporary garden design with framed and overlapping elements at different levels. The main outdoor patio space cuts into and juxtaposes with the main interior space and is of equal size and scale. A main walkway bridges over two black ponds, whilst sunken lawn and larch decked areas create spaces for relaxing and entertaining. The house and garden were used to film Channel 5’s The Gadget Show.
Whilst Ilex crenata ‘Convexa’ or Japanese Holly is to be shaped in time to create additional Japanese accents, the planting scheme also combines large grasses with perennials and UK wildflowers. Trees are underplanted with ferns, anemone and digitalis. Much of the planting was undertaken by myself.
