Nature Recovery Visualisations

Client: Natural Resources Wales, Denbighshire County Council [Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB] and Conwy County Borough Council.

[2019-]

Visualisations for climate change mitigation and nature recovery to support ecological, green infrastructure, river restoration and dark sky measures across Wales, and in collaboration with many NRW and local council officers and experts.

For an initial Landscape and Nature Recovery in a Changing Climate document, Jill Bullen [Lead Specialist Advisor: Landscape at NRW] wrote:

“This place based guide is firmly rooted to context and landscape character and sensitively envisions climate responsive landscapes. Collaboration captured a range of information and expertise that was balanced to inform the design and visualisations, from those working daily within the landscape types, climate change science and the artistic discipline of Landscape Architecture.

Collectively, we visualised future landscape scenarios through site based exploration and documentation; sharing images and information; revising text and drawings; and even taking small influences from past sketches and historic paintings. Perhaps if artists such as Richard Wilson visited these sites today, they would be inclined to paint in the context of tackling climate change and nature recovery.

Communicating this to a wide audience and range of different people and sectors meant using photographs, text , collage and illustration to capture a sense of clear practical and positive change without a loss of the scenic atmosphere important to those that enjoy, live and work there”.
